An online presence is, today, a must for every entrepreneur.
A presence on social media is just as important, but companies usually don’t have the time for preparing content and managing it. That is why social media management is handed over to marketing agencies.
In Slovenia, the first choice is still Facebook, but there are many more possibilities. So a lot of profiles get created on different online networks, but the will and time to create content run out far too quickly. Where, in fact, do you need to show up, and which networks can you safely ignore?
A profile on this network is held by almost a million Slovenians, and half of them also use it daily. The demographic make-up of the users has changed over the years. Where at the start it was mostly the very young here, this is now ‘our parents’ network’. If your customers are mostly adults, including pensioners, there is a great chance you will find them here. Above all, they like to spend time in groups, where they swap recipes, camping tips, solve language puzzles, look for old books, do gardening, or try to sell children’s clothes. Beyond a page for your business, also create a group or join a suitable one and offer your knowledge. Inquiries about your services or products can pop up very quickly. Nor should we forget the power of Facebook ads, where for little money you quickly reach a large number of people.
Twitter holds onto a touch of nostalgia for SMS messages. On it you will find around 200,000 Slovenians. Messages are limited to 280 characters, with the option of adding an image. If we want our messages to have reach and impact, we need a lot of followers, and reading the ‘feed’ isn’t particularly interesting either if we don’t follow interesting people. Both of these take quite a lot of time, so the network isn’t particularly interesting for marketing. On Twitter you will find a lot of information from all over and certainly someone who masters exactly what you are looking for. It is definitely more a network for making acquaintances than for sales as such.
Instagram is used by about the same number of Slovenians as Twitter and is gaining new users quickly. It pays to connect your Facebook profile with Instagram, since you can post on both at the same time, and Facebook also gives you an overview of comments, private messages, and ads. That way, with one move, you cover two popular channels that love interesting photos and short videos.
YouTube
If you are excited by video content, then this is the right channel for you. It has never been easier to have your own TV channel. If you do photogenic work that is best presented through video, then stop waiting. People are surely waiting with interest for your know-how on repairing phones, unclogging drains, making children’s clothes, or caring for houseplants. There is, in fact, no content that wouldn’t benefit from YouTube. But in the flood of various content, pay attention to the quality of your products. You can avoid unwatchable video content with simple tools:
- a tripod or image stabiliser,
- a microphone, and
- good light (or just film outside).
The whole magic of recording and editing can in the end be done well enough on your phone. And done. YouTube can be a wonderful tool with which to show yourself and your work, and so build trust with customers. On this channel you will find absolutely everyone: young and old, since video is the medium of the future.
LinkedIn is a bit reminiscent of the yellow pages in directories. It is the network of business people and companies. If you do B2B, then you must be on this network. Your personal profile can replace the old-fashioned CV, and with it you can quickly show all your skills and knowledge. LinkedIn is a tool with which you can find a person or a company to cooperate with, or just dive into the sea of content that can help you with your business. The more people you are connected with, the greater the chance you will come across a business opportunity. Activity is also important: connect, be a useful member of the community, and sooner or later you will progress.
TikTok
The currently hottest network, surrounded by a lot of controversy, is TikTok. If your customers are young or young at heart, then it is worth offering content on this network too. It is an endless ocean of short video content (15 or 60 seconds), which, with the help of musical and graphic add-ons, turn into creative masterpieces. Ride the trend wave and pack your services or products in the latest dressing, and you will surely catch some eyes. More fun content means more visits to your pages and, in the end, more purchases too.
